Winning piece of the 3rd edition of the “Ciro Scarponi” International Competition
"Tarantella" is a composition that seeks to represent a typically Neapolitan sound world with an Oriental-inspired flavor. The thematic elements are derived from the use of a Neapolitan scale combined with a pentatonic scale. This mutual "contamination" is not the only one present in the piece. In fact, the structure itself follows a constructive logic based on the concept of contamination. The work is divided into four macro-areas that intersect, each becoming, even if only briefly, a contaminating element for the others.
The harmony, with a traditional imprint, is mainly based on a play of enharmonic shifts and complex harmonies, creating a continuous musical flow that never finds a stable tonal center.
The composer: Ugo Raimondi
